College of Education believes that outstanding teaching involves a lifelong commitment and practice of active learning, a practice governed by a nurturing character, reflective inquiry, differentiated instruction, and action research. We believe that educators who are actively engaged in learning in the teacher preparation program will actively engage their students. The teacher must be a learner and a researcher, engaging students in learning. We want our teachers and teacher training trainees at Debre Berhan University, as well as our stakeholders, to change the way students think and respond to learning. Talented teachers exhibit mastery of their content and professional knowledge and demonstrate the ability to use these knowledge bases as the underpinning for designing innovative instruction and active learning opportunities for diverse students.

The mission of the college of education is to make capable teachers who reveal in-depth and wide content knowledge, cultural competence and sensitivity as well as a collection of effective pedagogical skills that have been improved through rigorous classroom and field-based involvements, and to facilitate successful learning outcomes in diverse environments.
