Dear our website visitors, Debre Berhan University (DBU) is a
public higher education institution established as an autonomous
in 2007 by the decree
no. 61/1999 E.C of the Council of Ministers of the FDRE.
Since its establishment, DBU has been striving hard to
achieve its triple mandates of producing efficient graduates
by offering research assisted quality education, undertaking
problem solving research on some selected thematic areas and
offering community engagement training, consultancy service,
transferring technology and undertaking innovations.
Presently, Debre Berhan University, in addition to the academic
programs being offered on its main campus, has started providing
training in its new campus, namely Asrat Woldeyes Health Science
Campus located in Debre Berhan City Administration. Hakim Gizaw
Memorial Teaching Hospital has also started carrying out its
duty with modern technologies and facilities which enhance
the medication process and treatment of patients. Minilik II
Technology Institute and Mehal-Meda Highland Agriculture &
Tourism Research center are under construction.
DBU is differentiated as an Applied Science Universities since 2020. Universities of Applied Sciences offer Bachelor and Master Degree programs that reflect a direct link to the professional field and have a firm element of job-oriented development in their curriculum. Universities of Applied Science’s education concept is based on the principle that a student should be highly employable after graduation, or indeed able to employ themselves – especially through understanding the basic principles of operation and management within the industry field that they have studied for.
The thematic areas that were identified by Debre Berhan University focused on research and technology transfer. In doing so a large number of individuals and joint endeavors participated. There is a growing need on these selected areas as DBU is now transitioning towards becoming an Applied University. Thus, we are working on extensive research engagements involving our academic staff and graduate students, and there is a promising progress in collaborative projects with all our local, regional and international partners over the years. In general, there is a need for us to work harder on the direction of knowledge dissemination and publication by ensuring the quality and relevance of our research undertakings. In addition, the Community Engagements comprise a wide range of activities and professional support rendered by individuals and/or groups from DBU to the surrounding community. Debre Berhan University has been engaged in delivering diversified community services to the nearby society directed towards demand-driven and relevant areas. However, we need to work harder to improve our community services by actively engaging the beneficiaries for better impacts and sustainability.
We should continue our devotion to build an exciting future for our university together, as your continued dedication, support, and enthusiasm will be the foundation of our success.
