Debre Berhan University Council Visit ICT Park in Addis Ababa

In a move to fortify the university's collaboration with industry, the members of DBU council undertook an official visit to the ICT park in Addis Ababa on January 27, 2024, in response to an invitation from the organization. The purpose of the visit was twofold: to provide DBU with vital insights into the application and utilization of ICT, nurturing its transition towards applied science, and to cultivate linkages with the industry for technological transfer and research collaboration opportunities. The ICT park, an essential member of DBU's industry advisory board, demonstrates industry's dedication to sharing cutting-edge technologies and deployment experiences in the ICT sector. Dr. Nigus Tadesse, president of the university, underscored the significance of this visit, highlighting the immense potential it holds for aligning DBU staff with the national ICT development goals, thus allowing them to contribute effectively toward their realization.

Mr. Henock, CEO of the ICT park, reaffirmed the park's readiness to support DBU's drive towards applied science through the established university-industry advisory board. He emphasized the park's pivotal role in integrating academia, research, product, and commercialization, creating an environment conducive to knowledge economy investments and attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Mr. Henock stressed the park's central role in technology transfer, also highlighting opportunities for joint research projects with companies in the park. The visit encompassed explorations of Raxio data center, Wingu Africa data center, and various ICT incubation centers. The university's dedicated focus on ICT projects stems from a recognition of their potential to make a significant real-world impact, aligning with broader educational development goals while expediting economic growth through the innovative and reliable application of technology.
