Debre Berhan University Hosts University-Industry Linkage Consultation

Debre Berhan University (DBU) recently held a consultation meeting on strengthening university-industry linkages, partnering with the Ethiopian Science Academy (ESA) and GIZ. The event took place at the MADO hotel in Addis Ababa. Various officials including Dr. Yishrun Alemayehu, state minister of Ministry of Innovation and Technology (MinT), has participated during the consultation.
Prof. Teketel Yohannes, Executive Director of ESA, delivered the keynote address. He highlighted ESA's commitment to supporting applied science universities in Ethiopia, praising DBU for its strong performance in this area. He emphasized ESA's decision to host this consultation meeting specifically with DBU and its intention to continue collaborating with the university to improve industry partnerships.
Dr. Getnet Ashenafi, DBU's Academic Vice President, presented on the university's accreditation of applied science training programs and its current collaborative efforts with industry. He described DBU's active engagement with various industries, including joint employment opportunities and student internships.
Mr. Yonas Adane, a lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, shared insights on DBU's laboratory workshops and their role in fostering collaborations with industries. He highlighted the university's focus on practical training and industry partnerships.
Following the presentations, participants engaged in discussions focused on enhancing DBU's collaborations with industries. Key areas of discussion included: Developing graduates with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed by industry as well as Ensuring DBU provides graduates equipped to meet industry demands.
The consultation concluded with Dr. Getnet Ashenafi and Dr.Tewodros K/Yohannes (Chief Executive Director of Asrat Woldeyes Health Science Campus) presenting recognition certificates to individuals and organizations actively collaborating with Debre Berhan University. This event serves as a stepping stone for DBU to further strengthen its partnerships with industry partners and continue to produce graduates who meet the needs of the Ethiopian workforce.
