College of Agriculture and Natural Resources holds the First National Symposium

under the theme “Integrated landscape management for food security and improving the livelihood of the society”  on June 19-20, 2018 G.C at PR Hall. Dr.Almaz Afera, Vice President for research and Community Service, while welcoming the participants said that this research symposium was one of the themes for DBU and it would enhance the performance of the research Directorate. She   added that food security is among the most burning issues in the region in particular and in the country as a whole. Therefore, such symposium should be given due attention and should be encouraged as the college took the pioneer initiation next to Business and Economics College.

Ato Derib Alemu, Dean College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, made an opening speech. He said that this conference is organized to share lots of experience and to widen the scope of the research areas in the field. He added that DBU had been chosen to be the center of excellence in High Land Agriculture and Agro-processing. To achieve its mission, the college did need assessments, curriculum developments and validation activities for undergraduates and postgraduates programs.

Dr.Tessfaye Hailu, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, “Integrated landscape management project Country Director”, presented the objectives and purpose of the project.

Finally, 10 research papers were presented and discussions were made.
